Description
Deep garnet, the TW Makauri is a blend of the best barrels of Malbec and Merlot from the 2014 vintage. It displays complex aromas of spiced dark berry compote, pure cocoa, tobacco, and sweet vanilla. The palate is perfectly balanced with fine, velvety tannin and excellent length, with allspice, dark plum, and black cherry flavors. Pleasingly smooth and intensely flavoured, this wine has an elegant length with lingering flavours of dark berries and vanilla.
Winemaker: Anita Ewart-Croy
Harvested after an excellent growing season, the grapes were quickly delivered to the winery and then gently destemmed. Partially crushed berries were then plunged twice daily in a small open fermenter while complexity enhancing yeast conducted the ferment. Once dry, the skins were pressed from the wine, and the wine was transferred to American and French barriques for malolactic fermentation. After 15 months of maturation in barrel, the wine was gently fined with fresh egg whites before being filtered and bottled.
